即可发现大量此方面的资料以其内容复杂，限于篇幅，拟于其后再以专文讨论，此处从略不过，一般而论，其对中国海军的态度尚称友善，尤其在琅威埋出任北洋舰队总查时期，更是如此由于英国对华的政策仅在谋求商业的利益，而无领土的野心，此点与日本及俄国大为不同，故其海军在华活动的目的，亦以护商保侨为侨为主要的目的

    在“中国舰队”中与中国海军相关之人士除琅威理lang之外，其它尚有一人值得一提，是即为阿斯本(sherard osborn，阿斯本原为“中国舰队”中 “furious”兵舰之舰长1858年，英法联军时曾载英使额尔金及译员李泰国(hlay北上，攻陷大沽口1862年，中国为了向英国购买兵舰，特命时任中国海关总税务司在英休假的李泰国代办，李泰国因与阿斯本有旧，而聘之为“中英舰队”(the anglo-chinese fleet的轮船统领，率舰回华不意，以指挥权问题发生冲突，阿斯本愤而辞职，引起一场轩然大波，而购舰之事亦归于失败[27]
